The Team

The MSOE Raiders Men’s Hockey Program is a student-led organization competing in ACHA Division II within the Northern Collegiate Hockey League (NCHL). We operate through player dues, fundraising, ticket sales, and sponsorships. With a dedicated coaching staff and a growing fan base, we compete every season to represent the Milwaukee School of Engineering with pride.

As a member of this program you’ll represent the MSOE Raiders on the ice in front of fellow students, faculty, and alumni. You’ll have access to competitive ACHA hockey, dedicated coaching, and the chance to be part of a brotherhood that lasts long after graduation.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering is a private, applied-STEM university known for rigorous academics, hands-on learning, and a tight-knit campus community. MSOE gives student-athletes the platform to grow on every front, with nationally recognized programs in engineering, computing, business, and nursing.

Hockey is one piece of what MSOE has to offer. The education, the people, and the city of Milwaukee are what make these four years matter.

Are You Eligible?

ACHA Division II requires student-athletes to be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and meet minimum academic standards. Here’s what you need to qualify.

Enrolled in a Degree Program

Must be pursuing an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Minimum 9 Credit Hours

Undergraduates must carry at least 9 semester hours. Graduate students require a minimum of 6 hours. An exception applies in your final semester before graduation.

2.00 Cumulative GPA

A minimum 2.00 overall GPA is required. First-year collegiate players are not held to this requirement until the end of their first year.

Passed 9 Credit Hours

You must have completed and passed 9 credit hours. First-year players are exempt from this requirement until the end of their first season.

Common Questions

Where do you practice and play?

Practices and home games are held at the MSOE Kern Center, an on-campus rink located below the student rec center. Specific schedule details are sent to invited players each season.

When are tryouts?

Tryouts are typically held in September before the start of the regular season. Once you submit the recruitment form on this page, the coaching staff will follow up with specific dates and details.

How do I sign up for tryouts?

Fill out the recruitment form on this page. The coaching staff will reach out with the next steps, including the tryout schedule and any required paperwork.

How often do you practice?

Two to three practices per week during the season, plus home or away games on most weekends.

What does the program cost?

Player dues cover league fees, ice time, travel, jerseys, and other operational costs. Specific dues are communicated to invited players each year.

How are away games handled?

The team travels together for away games, typically by bus or shared vehicles depending on distance. Veterans with cars are encouraged to give rides to players living on campus.

What about academics?

School comes first. All players must maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA to remain eligible. If you need to miss a practice or game to study or finish coursework, we understand.

What’s the best part about being on the team?

Stepping onto the ice in front of fellow students and wearing the Raiders sweater. Winning at home, silencing a rowdy crowd on the road, and building friendships that last a lifetime.
